Tim McCollum, Madécasse co-founder and recipient of the Stern Berkley Center’s 2008 Social Venture Competition, will share how the company is transforming the chocolate business and improving communities in Madagascar.
Tim will provide insight on the practices of the global chocolate industry and how these historical practices have negatively impacted developing countries. Currently, 85% of the worlds cocoa is grown in Africa, but less than 1% of the chocolate is made there. Tim will discuss how Madécasse is shifting chocolate production to the source in order to bridge the gap between poverty and potential in Madagascar. Aspiring entrepreneurs will also be interested to hear Tim share lessons learned from starting and growing Madécasse into a profitable business…
Madécasse is also looking for Stern students interested in developing their business skills through one of several internship opportunities.
